Hair and Makeup for Photography Sessions in Melbourne

💄Do You Need Professional Hair and Makeup for Your Photoshoot?

Alana Taylor Photography doesn’t provide hair and makeup services in-studio. However, if you’d like that extra boost of confidence and a beautifully polished finish for your photos, I highly recommend booking a professional artist.

A local favourite is The Makeover Lounge in Clyde, known for exceptional hair and makeup and a calm, client-friendly experience.

You can also find other talented artists through local Facebook community groups or word-of-mouth recommendations. If you’d like help choosing someone or want a suggestion based on your session style, feel free to reach out — I’m always happy to help.

Hair & Makeup Recommendations for Your Photography Session

While I don’t provide hair and makeup services in-studio, I do confidently recommend a trusted local artist who my clients love and who consistently delivers beautiful, camera-ready results.

Who I Recommend

I recommend The Makeup Lounge in Clyde for professional hair and makeup. They are experienced with photography clients and understand how to create a polished, natural look that photographs beautifully without feeling overdone. Their calm, professional approach makes the experience relaxed and enjoyable, which is especially helpful on a busy session day.

What to Book

For most photography sessions, booking both hair and makeup is ideal to achieve a cohesive, finished look. Soft, natural makeup with good skin prep photographs best, and hair styling helps ensure your look holds throughout the session and looks consistent from every angle.

If you’re unsure what style to request, a “natural glam” or “soft polished” look is a safe option for maternity, family, branding, and milestone sessions. The Makeup Lounge can also tailor the look to suit your outfit choices and the overall feel of your shoot.

How to Plan Hair & Makeup Around Your Session Time

When booking hair and makeup, it’s important to allow enough time so you’re not rushed before your session. Aim to have hair and makeup finished at least 30–45 minutes before your photography session start time. This allows time for travel, outfit changes, and a calm arrival at the studio.

If your session is early in the morning, I recommend booking hair and makeup well in advance, as early appointments can fill quickly. For afternoon sessions, factor in potential delays and allow a buffer so everything runs smoothly.

If you’re ever unsure about timing, you’re welcome to check in with me but please ensure you arrive on time for your session to avoid your session being cutshort
