Nursery Essentials

Updated: Jul 31, 2022

Finding our you are pregnant and preparing to bring home a newborn for the first time is not only one of the most incredible things you will ever do, but it can also be a little daunting on what to buy and where to start!

I guess designing a boutique nursery is deep down a dream of most of us, you know, the nursery with the perfect lighting, wall decal, matching furniture and so on? Let me tell you though, the first few months it's not often that you will actually go in there much, if at all. The main reason is usually because you have set up a bassinet or co sleeper in your room.

So with all of that in mind there are indeed some newborn nursery essentials you will need!

So to get you started we made you a list and while we were at it we linked a few of our favourite nursery must haves.

  1. Where are they sleeping? One of our favourite co sleepers would be the CoZee Breeze Plus Co-Sleeping Bassinet with Rocking Legs in Oak Silver

  2. Fitted sheet and a mattress protector, consider the type of sleeping device you are buying as some require specific sheets

  3. Feeding chair, one that we really like is the STRANDMON Wing chair, from Ikea. It has a high back that suits most people and comes in heap of colours and has a matching ottoman.

  4. A nice lamp to turn on in the middle of night is a lovely touch for a nursery. Something simple to match your decal, we are loving the rattan look right now. Check out this rattan lamp from Kmart.

  5. Every nursery will need some drawers for all of those bonds onesies am I right? We like the look of the Aspen Six Drawer from Mocka. Again this one will depend on your colour scheme.

  6. Monitors, a must have! Our favourite right now is the Vtech Video Monitor With Remote Access, you can pick this up from Baby Bunting. Its great as you can watch from the super large monitor or connect to your phone via wifi.

  7. This is probably our favourite pick of the day, best white noise machine on the market! The Glow dreamer. It comes with different oils, this winter the oil for the common cold has been used every night in our house. They look really great too.

  8. To match the drawers we picked the Aspen change table from Mocka, a comfy place to change your babe is a must and you want to save your back the best you can, so it is a good investment.

Now this is just a start, kids are expensive and totally worth every cent. Try not to procrastinate too much, look for specials and start some lay buys.
